Bespoke Formulation Guidance and Support

Stefan Hagenberg, Azelis Coatings, Bespoke Formulation Guidance and Support

Good formulation of coatings is based on knowledge of polymer chemistry, good practiced handcraft and of course experience in compounding. In this day and age of numerous raw material suppliers and various compounding techniques it could be helpful to gain formulation support by an independent service laboratory.

This presentation shows the capability of Azelis new coating laboratory.  Azelis is a leading global distributor of speciality chemicals. The focus of the laboratory is formulation support for waterbased systems like facade and interior wall paints, wood lacquers and pigmented primers.

With a broad portfolio of coating binders and additives of Azelis in mind (raw material suppliers like Momentive, Evonik, Solvay, Clariant, Lanxess and many more) this presentation gives an overview of compounding and testing methods of this new facility –based in the heart of Europe in Sankt Augustin (Germany)

The laboratory will concentrate on development and optimisation of guide formulations, integration  and  replacement of  raw materials, increase customer compounding know how and achieve tailored solutions which fit customer and principal needs.

Stefan Hagenberg has a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences, Münster, Germany which he followed with a Masters Degree in Polymer Science.

He joined BASF Coatings, Germany in 1992 moving to Synthomer in 2002 before working at  Julius Hoesch, Germany. He has only recently joined Azelis. He has a wide range of experience of formulation working in technical laboratories throughout his career.
